A Support System for Faculty
Office of Research and Sponsored Programs
The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) at Sam Houston State University promotes all aspects of research and other creative endeavors at SHSU, which includes the following goals:
- development and implementation of research and scholarly activities
- assisting in locating resources to support this activity
- creating policies to provide an environment conducive to scholarship
- promoting the importance and visibility of the institution's research activities

The office will assist with the following:
- research development
- proposal development
- compliance (e.g., use of human and animal subjects)
- the dissemination of results
Faculty governance reporting to the Associate Vice President for ORSP.
- IRB (Use of Human Subjects): This 21-member committee proposed research to ensure that the proposed project follows federal guidelines and the accepted ethical principles meet that goal.
- IACUC (Use of Animal Subjects): This 6-member committee oversees and evaluates all aspects of SHSU's care and use of laboratory animals for research or instructional purposes.
- Faculty Research Council (FRC): This 9-member committee supervises the following disbursement of state research enhancement funds to support research carried out by faculty members within SHSU and the formulation of guidelines and the coordination, organization, and active encouragement of faculty research using these state funds.

The Office of Research Administration (ORA), provides pre-award routing, budget development, and grant submission procedures and post-award grant management.
